What is Time Management?

Time Management allows you to plan and measure your test execution more effectively. When creating or editing test cases, you can estimate how long it should take to execute them. Testuff automatically records the time spent running tests, allowing you to compare actual time spent against the estimated time. This feature facilitates more accurate test planning and fairer allocation of tasks within a team, while helping you refine your time estimates for better management.

What’s the best strategy for time management?

The best place to manage Time Management is within Labs. After assigning estimated times to test cases, you can track how long each tester is expected to spend executing their assigned tests, as well as monitor the actual time they take.

Big Brother is watching?

Not at all. The goal of Time Management isn’t to micromanage testers with a stopwatch. Testing is a craft, and testers should have the freedom to take the time they need. The intention is to aid in planning and to help improve efficiency, not to add pressure.

Why can’t I see the actual time on the Test Runner?

Testuff is designed to support test management, not to impose strict time constraints on testers. Although the actual run time is not displayed on the Test Runner, you can still view it in Labs. Testuff even calculates the average actual run-time for each test based on its runs, which can help you better estimate time for future tests.

I don’t see the estimated time for tests in Labs

If tests were previously assigned in Labs, the run information reflects the time when the test was initially allocated. This means that the estimated time might not be immediately visible. To view estimated times, you may need to re-allocate the tests to testers or create a new Lab.
