Reporting Defects in Testuff
You can report defects directly from Testuff using our convenient Bug Reporter. The Bug Reporter is designed to make bug reporting easy, minimizing the need to fill out extensive forms, or details. You can effortlessly capture screenshots, attach files, and if a video was recorded during a test, it will automatically be included with the defect report.
If you’re not using a bug tracker, Testuff’s Defects module allows you to track and manage defects, including reporting, editing, attaching files, and updating their status.
How to report defects
Defects can be reported in several ways:
- General Reporting: Navigate to the Defects screen and click the “Add Defect” button to report bugs that are not specific to any test.
- During Test Runs: Fail a step during a test run to open the Bug Reporter. The defect will be linked to the current test.
Note: you can also click the ‘bug’ icon in the test runner to open a defect report without tying it to any specific step.
To report defects, you need to set up set up the tracker integration first.
Reusing an existing defect
If a defect has already been reported, you can link to the existing one instead of creating a new report. This saves time and keeps the defect list more manageable.
In the Defect Reporter, click on Link an existing defect, search for the defect by text or by #number and click on the Link button when ready.
Customizing the bug reporter
You can add custom fields to the Bug Reporter based on your bug tracker integration. This can be configured in the Bug Tracker Integration settings.
Additionally, consider enabling the “Open defect in browser” option when reporting. This will automatically open the defect in your browser after exporting it to your tracker, allowing you to add any additional fields.
Customizing defect fields and status values
Testuff allows customization of the fields and status values associated with your reported defects.
- Defect fields: From Settings select Defect template. Click Edit to modify the template.
Read more on how to do it here. - Defect status values: Navigate to Settings → Customization → Defect Status, and click “Edit.” You can add new values or modify existing ones. This can be useful when in need to match the statuses with your tracker’s status values.
- Managing Defect Severity: The Defect Severity field is a standard part of every bug report. You can customize its values to align with your bug tracker.
Go to Settings->Customization, and find the Defect Severity section to edit its values. If your tracker includes a same field, Testuff will replace the values for it with the tracker field’s values.
Linking between defects
You can reference other defects within a defect report by using their ID number. Enter the defect position ID using #ID format. A dialog will appear, allowing you to confirm and link the defect.

Associating defects with requirements
Reported defects are automatically associated with requirements, when reportd from tests assigned to these requirements.
Testuff also allows you to assign defects to requirements, even if the defect wasn’t reported from a test linked to that requirement. To do that, checkmark the defect, open the menu, select Link to requirement and choose the appropriate requirement from the list.
